Rickaby Thompson Associates is pleased to announce that we can now offer our clients support in implementing the Soft Landings approach to building performance, though our partnership with Six Cylinder Limited and Performance Consultancy Ltd. Soft Landings is a process by which the effectiveness and efficiency of a new or retrofitted building is managed proactively throughout the delivery process. It aims to keep the focus of the design and construction efforts on the outcomes of the building project (occupant satisfaction, energy performance, etc.) as opposed to the outputs of the construction project (walls, roofs, systems, etc.). Soft Landings helps to manage the risk of in-use performance failures from technical, facilities management, occupant or functionality perspectives. This process helps to close the Performance Gap between design intentions and delivered results, and ensure that clients’ objectives and intended building performance are achieved.
Our partners are leading proponents of the Soft Landings approach, having supported Soft Landings across a range of successful projects. Adopting the approach involves engagement throughout the project, including the development and use of an Operational Risk Register, a Building and Energy Management Plan, a Handover and Aftercare Strategy and Post-Occupancy Evaluation.
