Rickaby Thompson Associates was founded in 1982 as an architectural practice specialising in the design of energy efficient buildings.

The practice quickly evolved into a specialist energy consultancy working in the housing sector, and then expanded into the non-domestic sector.

As the company grew it acquired building performance evaluation and sustainability experience, and established training partnerships with National Energy Services and SE2 Ltd in the UK, and with University College Dublin and Scott + MacNeill in Ireland. The Environmental Assessment Consortium was formed in 1998. Rickaby Thompson Associates were architects for a large number of projects including office buildings, hotels, sports facilities, churches and individual low energy houses. However, the company stopped providing architectural services in 2002, in order to concentrate on energy and sustainability consultancy.

Rickaby Thompson Associates has been based in Milton Keynes since 1986, and maintained branch offices in Cambridge and Berkhamsted during the 1990s, and a branch office in Dublin from 2006 to 2010. We now use the latest web-based cloud computing techniques to operate throughout the EU from one office.
